Mexican Street Art

Street painting and stencil work is a manifestation of Oaxacans’ long struggle for social justice. It is abundant, and an integral part of the community’s vibrant art scene.

When I visited in 2008, I felt the need to document it as a living testament of the times. Most of these images were painted over in July 2009, in a big government “clean-up.” New work appeared soon after, demonstrating the immediacy of this art form, and its transient nature.
